No Extra Time definition breakdown (blog inspired by Tony Robbins)

STOP WASTING YOUR TIME!

HARNESS THE POWER OF N.E.T.

If you’ve ever used the excuse, “I don’t have time to improve my life,” consider how much time you are wasting. Stop wasting your time. Mindless moments add up. Which is why Art of Alignment Academy’s programs are filled with Mindfulness practices because when you mindfully set yourself up with mindful action, you create more time.

This has a lot to do with your attitude too. For example, in Shonda Rhimes’ Year of Yes, she spent so much time dreading the parties and events that her time, her peace, her possibilities were sucked up by her negative attitude around it. In other words, having a negative attitude is a waste of time!

There are strategies that can help you immensely. For instance, harness the power of  N.E.T. time – No Extra Time – and use time spent commuting, running errands, exercising or cleaning the house to feed your mind with high quality coaching and powerful information that will help you achieve your dreams.

When you focus on what’s not working, you are, my friends, wasting time. It’s obviously fine to review what’s not working in order to shift it but focusing on what’s not working is literally a kill-joy and depletes you of energy meant for much better things in your life!

Here’s how to stop wasting time:

– Prepare a list of action items, podcasts or websites that you can utilize in short bursts of time and keep this list handy on your phone or in your planner.

– Combine your N.E.T. time with action, and your results will increase exponentially! (For example, when you go food shopping, can you take the time to be in full communion with the healthy and life-giving food that you are purchasing. Not only are you using time wisely, you are  entering into a healthier relationship with your cells! Or perhaps listen to some inspiring talk from your favorite poet, musician, artist, author. When you listen to more of what you want to create in your life, you are setting yourself up to have more time in the future.)

– Take a look at all of the time you could be taking advantage of right now instead of focusing on how much you have “to do”. Presence and mindful awareness are key to NET.

Before you can move full speed ahead into time management systems, it helps to think about why you find yourself wasting time in the first place.

WHY ARE YOU WASTING TIME?

There are many reasons why you might be wasting time. Maybe you haven’t gotten clear on your ultimate purpose, and don’t feel motivated to move forward.

Perhaps you’ve given in to limiting beliefs and are telling yourself you’re incapable of accomplishing your goals.

Or maybe you haven’t yet mastered effective time management skills and are wasting more time than planned. Whatever the reason, you can move forward.

Here are a few strategies that can help you to stop wasting time.

1. Chunking: Chunking is the process of grouping things you need to do by the outcome. Start by capturing, or writing down, everything you need to do. Then, look for commonalities, chunk them together and finally, take action.

2. Priming: Sometimes getting things done is all about being in the right state. By practicing priming every day, for just 10 minutes, you can adjust your emotions and attitude to where it needs to be. When you’re in the right state, you’ll accomplish more and feel more motivated.

3. Rapid Planning Method (RPM): RPM is a time management system that allows you to reclaim control of your life. Take a look at the video below.

There are a limited number of hours in the day, that’s true, but when used effectively, there’s more than enough time to accomplish everything you set your mind to. Specificity, and clarity of what you want your outcome to be is key.

I have been using this method for years and it has transformed my life. My level of productivity has increased exponentially but the real benefit is how clear my mind is and how much more mental acuity I’ve developed.

Best of all, is how easily I can change my state and thoughts in a moment. No useless extra thoughts, so fewer insecurities, so much more confidence and even extra time to do even more of what I truly love in my life!

Clients’ Success: Grace Kraaijvanger

Article by Willow Older

Grace Kraaijvanger spent years juggling her passion – performing and choreographing ballet and modern dance – with her work as an independent marketing consultant. After having two kids and “accidentally retiring” as a professional dancer, Grace planned to build up her marketing business. Problem was, she says, “I’d already been part of a passionate, creative arts community. Now I was working at home and feeling very lonely. I missed being part of a supportive, like-minded community.” Grace decided to join a coworking space. Her options, however, were “very male, very tech” – a far cry from the “female fuel” she was craving. So Grace did what entrepreneurs do: After identifying a gap in the shared-workspace market, she turned a problem in a business.

The Hivery opened its doors nearly five years ago with 25 members. Today, more than 400 women create, explore and collaborate in the beautiful, light-filled workspace. The Hivery has already enjoyed huge growth and success, and the best, says Grace, is still to come.

Grace, you launched the Hivery to solve a problem you discovered while looking for a coworking space. Tell us about the process of turning an idea into action.

Five years ago, coworking spaces were relatively new. As a contractor working at home, I missed being around creative, passionate people. I tried to find a shared workspace where I felt comfortable, where I felt like I belonged. I couldn’t find it anywhere.

At the same time, I’d been soul-searching about what I wanted to do with my life. I’d lost my mom to ovarian cancer a couple years earlier, and that was my wake-up call. I wanted to do something meaningful and make a positive impact. I’ve always been interested in what happens when women start exploring the next chapters in their lives. I realized creating a safe, female-focused space for education, mentorship, creativity, and collaboration might answer a lot of my own questions about “what’s next?”

I mentioned my idea to a friend, and she laughed. She said, “You told me you wanted to do this ten years ago!” She was right, but I’d never fully embraced the idea. As soon as I had clarity, all the doors opened. In a matter of weeks, I’d found a space, come up with the name and write all the copy for the website.

Looking back, I’d been scratching at the idea for the Hivery for a decade. I think fear kept clarity at bay. On a subconscious level, I knew that once I had clarity, I’d have to take action.

Fear is something every entrepreneur contends with, especially when they’re starting out in business. What were your biggest fears and how did you handle them? I had the typical fears – will anyone get it? Does anyone want this? Will anyone come? The answers were yes, yes and yes. In fact, we quickly outgrew our first Hivery space. I found a new location right in downtown Mill Valley. The lease was long-term and expensive.

When it was time to sign it, I felt like I was going to throw up. I was really afraid. Not only was I taking on a greater financial risk, now I risked failing in a very public way in front of the entire town where my family and I live.

At that moment, I had to lean into my fears. I told myself it’s okay to feel vulnerable and afraid. I also got really clear that, physically, fear and exhilaration feel exactly the same. It was a defining moment, and it changed how I think about fear. Now we’re friends!

How do you explain the tremendous growth and success of the Hivery?

I’ve thought a lot about what the “secret sauce” is that explains why people love the Hivery. It’s not just that it’s a beautiful space to work. Our members are in their mid-20s to early 80s; they’re parents, empty-nesters, professionals, entrepreneurs and everything in between. The “through-line” is they all want a safe space to explore their next chapter. Doing it alone can be scary and paralyzing. Women need a safe place to take their next steps.

You’re no stranger to working long, hard days. Who or what helps you when things get tough?

My team and the Hivery community itself could not be more supportive. I also have coaches and teachers who I wholeheartedly rely on. I FaceTime twice a month with my mentor, Anne-Marie Duchene. We meditate together for ten minutes at the start of every session. She is my sounding board for anything from staffing issues to communication strategies. Anne-Marie helps me define goals and holds me accountable for making decisions or changing my mind. Above all, she integrates the personal and the business side of my life.

I used to sacrifice my own self-care when things got crazy. That just left me feeling tired and stressed, and my creative juices stopped flowing. Now I do yoga nearly every day at 6 a.m. I have “moving meetings” – we walk or hike while we talk. Doing yoga and getting outside regularly has totally changed my ability to cope with fear, stress and business challenges.

Grace, what’s ahead for the Hivery?

So many exciting things! The big news is that Marie Forleo will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming Entrepreneur + Inspiration Lab, a daylong workshop in San Francisco. Marie is a huge proponent of creating engaging experiences for entrepreneurial women, and the Hivery event perfectly aligns with those values. I couldn’t be more thrilled.

In addition, we’ve just launched the Hivery Virtual Membership. This online offering will help us bring the magic of the Hivery to members around the globe. I’ll be sharing some more big news soon, so stay tuned!

Artistry takes dedicated practice. It takes listening and fine-tuning. It takes trial and error. And in the end, your efforts produce works of art – beautiful, unique, individualistic, breathtaking art.

What artists create is undeniably their own, but, to be fully appreciated, art must have an audience. Art that is most powerful is impactful. People walk away from exceptional art inspired in some way. Mindful communication is no different. When done well, it inspires replication by others. The end result of true mindfulness is not confined to you; it spreads to those around you and creates a united, mindful community.

Of course, there are scientific and psychological elements of mindfulness, as well, but, at its heart, being mindful is a state of awareness and benevolent action that is based on observation, impression, instinct, and communication. It is more than just being generally aware. Being mindful is being aware of the subtleties of human sensations and interactions. Mindful communication is an integral aspect of comprehensive mindfulness – the most obvious, fundamental way you convey your awareness of and concern for others.

As a business leader, there can be many things that distract from being mindful. Sales and revenue goals, hiring and firing decisions, rules and regulations, interpersonal conflicts, training requirements: these components of business can overwhelm leaders and cause them to forget about being aware of, and serving others, as distinct individuals. Personal lives can also contribute to a loss of mindfulness.

How can you be a mindful business leader, and why is it important that you do so?

The most successful and appreciated leaders, however, are those who can manage necessary tasks without losing sight of and caring for people: themselves, their families, their colleagues, their employees, their clients, their prospects, their communities, and everyone else with whom they interact.

At the most basic level, people need to feel loved and appreciated. This is universal. If you want happy, satisfied, loyal, long-term employees, the most important thing you can do is to be mindful of them – and to make sure they know that you are.

So, how can you be mindful of the people in your company, and how can you communicate in a mindful manner with them? The following suggestions are broad, because people are different, but working within these general guidelines is a great start toward becoming a truly mindful person and communicating in a mindful manner:

Become a mindful person, not just a mindful business leader.

Mindful business leaders are mindful people. You can’t be a mindful business leader and lack mindfulness in the other areas of your life. Don’t segment or silo your work persona from your non-work personality. Be consistently mindful in all areas of your life.

Remember: People are more than their jobs.

Know your employees as people first and employees second. If you lose sight of their individual humanity, they will become numbers or cogs in a system, and they will feel that emotional disconnect when you communicate. They will know you are aware of, but not mindful of, them.

Communicate with people.

Communication is a two-way street. Mindful communication requires talking with people – not merely at them – and listening first to understand, not to respond. It is a process of soliciting input and valuing that input enough to consider it carefully and consciously. It involves getting to know how and why people think and see and feel, not just what they think.

Understand and respect differences.

Differences make up the uniquely blended colors on the canvases of our lives. It is impossible to be fully mindful of others without understanding and respecting the things that make them unique. Consciously focus on creating a diverse employee base in as many ways as possible in your location.

Remember, however, that being mindful is not a result of completing a checklist or memorizing key words or phrases. Being mindful is not so much a process of just doing as it is a process of feeling and becoming. It is an art.

Your business can be a manifestation of your vision for the world around you. You might not be able to change the entire world, but you can change your own world. You can make your own amazing art and become a Master Mindful Artist along the way.[/fusion_text][/two_third][one_sixth last=”yes” spacing=”yes” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” class=”” id=””][/one_sixth][/fullwidth]

At that time, I was renting a therapy room at Reflections and would see Ben and Julian almost every day with a slew of young interns chipping away at creating what has blossomed into a thriving organization whose mission is to help fitness & wellness professionals build thriving practices.

Body Local made this leap because of its co-founder’s leadership skills and a “get it done” attitude. In my opinion, the # 1 success principle for a continually thriving and growing business is, without question, one’s ability to lead and one’s commitment to ongoing personal development.

Without these two qualities, it is impossible to prosper because:

Your mindset, developed through ongoing personal development, is the single most fundamental tool for you to successfully maintain an outlook of positivity and possibility when all odds seem to be against you;

People and especially leaders need other strong, flexible, adept and creative leaders to assist them in excelling and surpassing themselves;

No matter how brilliant your content development expert or online marketing programmer is, your company or business simply cannot sustain ongoing success without the proper mental leveraging mechanisms, clarity of mind and continual energy required to maintain or grow your practice.

Leadership, today, means to delve head and heart first into your own unique brilliance. It requires you to be the best that you can be and to develop your personal gifts at every stage of the game. It also means that you surround yourself with your “tribe” and that your number one priority becomes contribution. It’s a win-win game for everyone.

Below are three essential skills to your Leadership & Personal Development toolbox:

Tool #1: Taking 100% Responsibility
Taking 100% responsibility for your life creates the clearing for actively creating the life that you’ve imagined. In other words, deciding to take full control of yourself and of your actions gives you real power to create. When you fail to do so, you are, by default, handing the reigns of your life to sources over which you have little if any control. It’s true that you may not always have 100% control of the circumstances in life but you have no power unless you take 100% responsibility for your experience of life.

Quality leadership training gives you the tools to begin gently dissecting how you have or have not been taking responsibility for your life and business. As you learn to develop this tool, not only does the quality of your life change, but everything around you begins to reflect this new version of yourself. Suddenly, you attract more ideal clients, make more money effortlessly and your level of confidence reaches new heights.

Tool #2: Work ONLY from your strengths
Focus on what you have, not on what you don’t have. Ask yourself, how are you wired to take action as a leader? Do you lead from the front, middle or from the back of the room?

A common example of someone focusing on what he/she doesn’t have is if you are someone who is constantly looking to gain one more certification or letter after your name. Even though you will seek to continually develop your skills, there is some danger in continuously looking to acquire more knowledge and never capitalizing on what you already know and have. The greatest leaders focus on their natural abilities first and gradually build upon them.

Focusing on your strengths and on what is available to you right now will allow you to be proactive and not waste time, which is your most important asset.

In Personal Development & Leadership training, you will learn to strategically develop your strengths while increasing your daily hours (because you’ll develop laser sharp focusing techniques) and create more free time to actually take some time off and thoroughly enjoy the labor of your fruits. Imagine that!

Tool #3: Understand that true Leadership & Personal Development is a Philosophy
Leadership is an attitude. It’s a state of mind. Every great leader knows that personal development is a continual practice to overcoming life’s challenges. It’s not a one-week course. It’s a life long practice towards developing mastery and acquiring excellence.

Most “great” businesses have a can-do attitude and a no hassle policy. For example, see Virgin Airlines, Evex lugguage, Four Seasons Hotel, Nordstrom and Amari Resorts. Your business will only be as extraordinary and everlasting as you and your vision are and the main ingredient in your successful practice, especially at the beginning, is YOU.

For example, everyone understands that to be a proficient Personal Trainer, you not only have to look the part, but you must be proficient in demonstrating that you actually can do the exercises with precision and perfection. There are tens thousands of personal trainers in the United States, but there are only a few Master Trainers who consistently enhance their skills and intelligently grow their teams. And so it is for exceptional Leadership & Personal Development Training.

In developing your philosophy of possibility around leadership, you will learn to integrate new wisdom and expand your vision of what’s possible for you. You will get to examine your beliefs and determine whether these have been propelling you forward or holding you back. You will learn creative thinking skills to keep you moving forward in a fun and intuitive manner. In short, you get to develop the best version of you.

Focusing on quality, a heart-centered approach, a commitment to making your environment a better place, touching people profoundly by modeling “the change you wish to see in the world” is what will garner you a rich and fulfilling career and life. Anything else is just short-changing yourself.

If you are serious about your long-term and successful career, Leadership and Personal Development is not an option. It’s the glue that makes everything else stick together.

What matters most is to keep showing up and do work that really matters. You have to believe in yourself and be passionate about whatever it is that you do. It has to be greater than you and serve as many people as possible who will benefit from your work. If this is your relationship to your career and mission, than you understand that your overall focus is so much bigger than yourself.

And that my friends, is a business worth living 😉

It has become a very catchy word in all fields of personal fitness, pilates, and yoga. And the truth is, I believe that the term is appropriate for all of these disciplines.

This being said, the distinction with Art of Alignment and other alignment programs is that we offer the possibility of alignment in three original and cutting edge methodologies.

The first, is presented in the art form of Hellerwork Structural Integration. I call it art because the work focuses on an approach that integrates technique, intuition and awareness. It is a “conversation” between the practitioner and the client but also between the client and the client’s deepened sense of personal awareness (see video testimonial below).

Specifically, Hellerwork is a type of manual therapy that focuses on creating more space, fluidity and freedom in your body through gentle manipulation and breath. The main “organ” that is addressed is fascia also know as connective tissue. This is a very important difference, say from massage, chiropractic or any other type of manipulation, because addressing the fascia in this way acknowledges the entire structure of the body and its inherent relationships.

One of the most powerful aspects of Hellerwork is the integration of therapeutic dialogue and movement education. It is a complete approach to alignment from the inside out.

The second method and program available to you is the Creative Leadership Coaching Program. After coaching hundreds of artists, corporate teams, and management professionals over the past 20 years, I have come to realize that the greatest positive change that has evolved in my clients’ lives and careers is through the art ofcreative coaching and communication.

Long gone are the days of coaching from a “safe” platform of “fitting in” or “following the crowd”. It is a very different time in the history of personal growth and human potentiality. We are now observing more and more people in all industries stepping into their entrepreneurial shoes wanting to have a real impact for the greater good of all. And this from people of all ages and in every culture.

The Creative Leadership Coaching Program (CLCP) offers you important tools to make the transition into a deeply satisfying and successful lifestyle and career. The goal is to assist you in recognizing your true deeper purpose on this earth. Together, we dissect what your “unique brilliance” is and creatively strategize a plan for your transition into the beginning of the rest of your life. You will learn to take massive decisive action and move into the direction of your dreams in a structured, supportive and proactive way.

“The program supports me in creating results in my life that are beyond transformational. I wish everyone I knew had an Anne-Marie for a coach.
I am literally making my dreams come true.”
-Barbara Katsnelson

The third method, Dynamic Alignment is a movement program that integrates my years as a dancer, martial artist and movement enthusiast. The bottom line is that humans are made to move, every day in every way. Stagnancy or lack of movement consistently gets us into a form of “stuckness”. The goal of Dynamic Alignment is to integrate easy daily movement patterns that support fluidity in the body, adds energy to your being and enlivens your spirit!

After teaching Dynamic Alignment in studios for several years, I have decided to create an online video series that is presently being developed to be launched within the next few months. Please stay tuned for more information on this exciting program!

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your healthcare family and as always, do not hesitate to contact me for more information or if you have any questions about
Art of Alignment and our programs!
